# Discord channels and roles

The SideQuest Discord opens up as you join: sign in, link Battle.net, then get confirmed in
game. See [Join the guild](join.md) for the steps.

## Roles you'll hold

- **At the Gate**: you're in the server but haven't signed in to the site yet. You can see only
  the sign-in channel.
- **Signed the Ledger**: you signed in with Discord.
- **Battle-Tagged**: you linked Battle.net.
- **New Arrival**: a Quest Master confirmed you in game. The guild channels open.
- **Away on a Quest**: you marked away dates on your [account page](account.md) that include
  today.

Badges from the [Hall of Heroes](https://sidequest-guild.com/heroes/) (First Steps, Raid
Regular, and the rest) are Discord roles too. The bot grants each one and announces it in chat
the moment you earn it.

## The welcome DM and Start here

The first time you sign in, the bot sends you a welcome DM. If you miss it, select the pinned
**Start here** button in `#guest-chat` to see it again.

## Chat levels

Each message you send earns 15 to 25 XP, at most once a minute. Levels run from **Lv 5 ·
Wayfarer** up to **Lv 50 · Legend**, and the matching role is handed out on its own as you level
up.

1. Type `/rank` in any channel to see your own level.
2. Type `/rank @someone` to see theirs.
3. Type `/leaderboard` to see the top of the server.
